Frosty night at the ball-field saw Ryan Junop pick up the win for the Merchants in the Richardson Pioneer Mens Fastball League. A Well played game with a Wildcat rally in the 6th got the score to 14-8 but they ran out of gas in the 7th losing 22-8. The Wildcats Nathin Pomedli, Koltin Paquachan, and Lucas Ochitwa split up the pitching duties with Lucas also reaching base all three at bats in the game. Ryan Junop pitched 6 innings and Zach Zadorozniak went 5 for 5 with an in the park Home Run to lead the Merchants. Darcy McLean went 3-3 with a triple, 2 SB’s, and 6 RBI’s to help the Merchants cause. Next game for the Merchants is against the Rosebud Royals at 7pm in Foam Lake. The Wildcats host the Stoney Creek Braves Monday May 22nd at 7:00.

Game 1

Stoney Creek Braves – 14
Wynyard Blues– 7

Game one saw a high scoring game between the defending league champion Blues and new-to-the league Braves. Tayler Jordan started for the Blues and pitched 6 innings, Jackson Karakochuck pitched the 7th. Rodney Hather started for the Braves and Dusty Keshane came in the 4th inning and finished the game.

Game two saw Michael Jordan for the Blues match up against Dusty Keshane for the Braves. The Blues jumped out to 6-0 lead by the 4th inning. Sid Keshane and Rodney Hather both pitched in relief for the Braves. Jordan pitched 6 innings for the Blues giving up 2 runs. Jackson Karakochuck pitched the 7th inning for the Blues. Final score was 8-5 for the Blues.

Friday May 12th action in the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League saw the Foam Lake Merchants defeat the Fishing Lake Cubs 12 to 5. Merchants pitcher James Anderson picked up the win with 6 innings of work with the 7th inning being closed out by Ryan Junop who also had a Home Run in the game. Merchants Brennan Hack had a few nice plays at 3rd including a one-hop bare hander. The Merchants had a few new good young players out for this season. The Cubs had a decent number baserunners but only were able to cash in runs in the 4th. Their 5 run inning brought the game to 7-5 but the Merchants pulled away in the end. Merchants next game is in Wadena Tuesday May 16th vs the Wadena Wildcats, while the Cubs play host to the Stoney Creek Braves Thursday May 19th. The Braves make their debut in the league Saturday May 13th with a double header in Wynyard starting at 1:00.

The Wynyard Blues hosted the Fishing Lake Cubs in the first game of the 2017 Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League on Wednesday, May 3rd at Centennial Park in Wynyard. The Blues won the game 11-7 in front of a good crowd. Corbett Sabit started for the Cubs and was relieved by Hal Machiskinic in the 4 inning. Tayler Jordan started for the Blues and pitched 4 innings while 15 year old Jackson Karakochuck came in for 1 inning of relief. Michael Jordan closed the game for the Blues. The game was called after 6 innings due to the setting sun.

The Fishing Lake Cubs defeated the Wadena Wildcats 21-2 in the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League May 10th. On a chilli night, the Wildcats couldn’t get anything rolling again the Cubs pitchers Corbett Sabit and Hal Machiskinic. The Wildcats sent Nathin Pomedli, Koltin Pachuachan and Lucas Ochitwa to the mound. Cubs batters Hal Machiskinic and Barry Belanger each had a home run in the match. The Cubs next game is in Foam Lake at 7:00 Friday May 12th and the Wildcats play host to the Foam Lake Merchants Tuesday May 16th at 7:00. Other games in the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League this weekend include the Stoney Creek Braves debut in a double header in Wynyard at 1:00 and 3:00 Saturday May 13th.
